Amerigo Vespucci ambassador of Italy departs July 1 for world tour

A Ministry of Defense initiative to enhance Italian excellence around the globe

The round-the-world voyage of the Amerigo Vespucci, a Navy sailing ship, will depart from the port of Genoa on Saturday, July 1. During this voyage, the ship will be an ambassador for Made in Italy.

The project was strongly supported by Defense Minister Guido Crosetto and involves several entities, including the Prime Minister’s Office, the Minister for Civil Protection and Sea Policies, the Minister for Sports and Youth, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Business and Made in Italy, the Ministry of Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, the Ministry of Environment and Energy Security, the Ministry of Culture and the Ministry of Tourism.


During the approximately two-year voyage of circumnavigating the globe, the initiative will combine the traditional training activities of student officers with the promotion of Italian excellence in the ports touched by the Vespucci.

The ship’s departure will be sealed by the passage of the Frecce Tricolori over the Gulf of Genoa. The event, organized in collaboration with Difesa Servizi SpA, will be broadcast live on Rai 1 starting at 11 a.m.
