Andrea Granchi, Cahier de voyage. From world description to artist’s book

A conference by Andrea Granchi, formerly a longtime lecturer in the Academies of Fine Arts of Carrara and Florence, curated by Sentiment of Beauty ODV and conceived especially for the Library of Lucca, allows for a further opportunity to reflect on the production of works in the form of “artist’s books” starting with the historical avant-gardes (Depero, Soffici etc. ) to arrive up to the most recent outcomes with a special look at the production of young people from all parts of the world who have worked in the New Multimedia Languages Laboratory of the two-year specialized course in Visual Arts and New Expressive Languages, held by Andrea Granchi until 2012, and where he himself had initiated a specific line of research on the work in the form of an artist’s book, promoting numerous exhibitions and events over the years.

The communication, rich in images, is flanked by the exhibition of a nimble selection of Granchi’s own artist’s books that he calls “variable form” capable of stimulating direct observation by students by introducing them to a territory of research in which painting, three-dimensional drawing, writing, and photography intertwine in a stimulating field of work while also taking into account conservation and cataloguing criteria. The conference and exhibition continue and develop the program on the Cahier de Voyages already launched in spring 2022 at the Ragghianti Foundation and the Real Collegio and promoted by Sentiment of Beauty.

The exhibition will be open until March 23 by reservation at info@sentimentofbeauty.it

Andrea Granchi’s conference, held in collaboration with the Accademia delle Arti del Disegno, of which he is president of the Painting Class, the State Library of Lucca, the Regional Museums Directorate of Tuscany and the cultural association Amici del Machiavelli, is part of the program “In the Landscape of Art. The beauty of the landscape” designed by the Sentiment of Beaty ODV association for second-grade schools in the Province of Lucca for the s.y. 2022/2023. The program is realized thanks to the contribution of Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Lucca, Banca Generali Private and the Real Collegio, with the collaboration of MIUR, Accademia delle Arti del Disegno di Firenze and Fondazione Ragghianti and for the educational part of ANISA Lucca section.
