Waiting for dawn on the Corno del Renon amidst the silence and magic of one of Europe’s most beautiful panoramas
Collalbo (BZ) – 300 km of paths and walks, a true paradise for those who love trekking and full immersion in nature. Even in winter. Because on the Renon, the sunny plateau overlooking the Dolomites, walking in the snow, surrounded by silence and a step away from the sky is one of the most suggestive experiences that is really worth trying.
Like the one that, on Sunday 13 March, will take you up to an altitude of 2,069 metres to enjoy a unique and exciting experience: admire the sun rising against the backdrop of one of the most beautiful views in the Dolomites. At 6.00 a.m. from the valley station, take the panoramic cable car up to Cima Lago Nero and wait for dawn, surrounded by the magic of silence and the priceless 360° view of the surrounding mountains. The famous “Round Table”, an extraordinary work of art created by Franz Messner and a platform from which to observe the spectacle of the sun peeking out from the snow-capped peaks, bears the names and profiles of all the peaks that stand out in front of it, from the ice giants of Ortles to the west to the legendary world of the Dolomites to the east, from the Stubai and Zillertal Alps to the north, to Presanella and Adamello to the south, where the Brenta Dolomites also emerge. After greeting the sunrise you can enjoy a rich breakfast buffet with home-made products at the trattoria Cima Lago Nero and return to the valley – always by cable car – with eyes and heart full of happiness. If you want to enjoy the view for a while longer, you can delay your return trip and venture up to the Corno del Renon with an easy hike (on request) along Italy’s first certified winter trail (Premium Tour Cieloronda), a circular route that offers unforgettable emotions along its 7.8 km (approx. 2.5 hours).
Not to be missed is the special hike with nature guide Karl Unterhofer on 11 March along the “Hirtensteig” (shepherd’s path), an impressive walk through meadows, forests and alpine pastures, passing through five “stations” which, thanks to detailed thematic tables and video contributions, recounts the past and present of this ancient profession. The excursion leads to a panoramic point that is well worth a stop to admire the snow-covered Alpine landscape. Duration 3 ½ hours; route 5 km; difference in altitude 200 m. Cost € 10, free with RittenCard or winter wellness package voucher. Registration until the day before, 4 p.m. at the Tourist Office Renon.
