The Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle reopen

Merano – There is great expectation for the reopening of the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle. On 1 April, the Gardens of Sissi reopen their doors to visitors who are curious to admire the botanical paradise of Merano. Inaugurated on 16 June 2001, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle have since been a succession of seasons of success, recognition and novelty. Also for 2019 the program and the initiatives planned will be numerous and very attractive, such as the temporary exhibition, guided tours, packages and events to experience the Gardens with a touch of worldliness.

Every year, before reopening, gardeners work intensively on planting about 300,000 bulbous plants, i.e. violets, tulips, daffodils, etc. and removing the winter protections of plants sensitive to cold. In this way, at the moment of the reopening, the Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle show off their most beautiful, flourishing and colourful dress, in which the contrast between the new foliage, rich of shades, and the intense dark green of the foliage of exotic evergreen species emerges.

For 2019, the temporary exhibition will have as protagonists the “Killer plants – The green carnivores”: through various visual media will be revealed tricks and ingenious devices that these plants use to attract insects into their trap. Sticky leaves, seductive flowers and extravagant tentacles are some of the tools that guarantee killer plants survival. The exhibition will take you on a journey through the natural habitats of carnivorous plants around the world, from the most to the least known, from tropical forests to swamps, from the valley floor to the high mountains. In the Greenhouse and in some scenarios of the park, it will be possible to admire some live specimens, and, to satisfy every curiosity, specific guided tours will be organized.
