The Virgin of the Rocks of the Borghetto by Francesco Melzi

Milan – From 30 January 2019, on the occasion of the celebrations for Leonardo’s 500th anniversary, the Ursuline Foundation of San Carlo will make La Vergine delle Rocce del Borghetto (1517-1520, tempera and oil on canvas, 198 x 122 cm), the work of Francesco Melzi, Leonardo da Vinci’s favourite pupil, available to the public for the first time.

The canvas – a faithful copy of the painting preserved in the Louvre and previously publicly exhibited for a few weeks in December 2014 at Palazzo Marino, next to Raphael’s Madonna Esterhazy – will be exceptionally visible thanks to special guided tours in the Church of San Michele del Dosso, where it is currently housed, inside the convent of the Ursuline Congregation of San Carlo in Milan (in front of the Basilica of Sant’Ambrogio).
