XXXIX Nativity scene exhibition in Grottaglie

At Christmas there is no more enchanting spectacle than the Nativity scene, a spectacle that has been renewed and surpassed in Grottaglie for over thirty years, showing the eclectic creativity of artists from all over Italy.

Italy, Grottaglie (TA) – Saturday, December 8, 2018 will be inaugurated the XXXIX edition of the Exhibition of the Nativity set up at the Castle Episcopio. The Exhibition of the Nativity is one of the artistic-cultural events organized by the City of Grottaglie. Founded in 1980, the exhibition since its first edition has sought to stimulate the revival of the art of traditional ceramic nativity scene while trying to contribute to the development of contemporary forms and techniques. It has become an opportunity to experience the art crib as a material interpretation of concepts, reflections and human feelings, through sculptures represented by ceramic artists in various forms, from respect for tradition to experimentation and technical and formal innovation. Over the years, the exhibition has attracted many master potters of national and international standing, whose award-winning works are now kept in the section of the cribs of the Museum of Ceramics in Grottaglie.

This year the exhibition that will take place at the Museum of Ceramics, in the Castle Episcopio, until January 6, 2019, has as its theme “Forms of Love”. “The theme of this edition of the exhibition of the Nativity” – stresses Elisabetta Dubla, Councillor for Culture of Grottaglie – “is a stimulus so that art, an instrument of expression of beauty and positive reworking of human misery, can grasp this Christian heritage and make it secular and universal, renewing its value in a contemporary key through the representation of all forms of love. The Nativity scene is a symbolic representation that visually re-proposes the most important values of humanity: the sacredness of human life, of motherhood and of the family; the equal dignity of man; generosity in helping those in need; peace and peaceful coexistence between different peoples; the acceptance of gifts brought by representatives of other peoples and cultures; respect and love for nature and for animals”.

The exhibition of the Nativity of Grottaglie is open until January 6, 2019 every day including holidays.
