Discovering the most beautiful beaches of Barcelona coast


Catalonia with its beautiful beaches has always been a perfect summer destination. Barcelona Coast along its 100 km of coastline offers a wide variety of beaches, from long and wide beaches of white sand to the most hidden bays.

we start from Sitges which is located in the region of Garraf, south of Barcelona, here there are 26 beaches along a stretch of coast of 18 kilometers. The pristine waters have earned many of them the much sought-after Blue Flag. Its location between the Mediterranean Sea and the coastal mountain range allows visitors to enjoy a unique scenery. Family beaches, small quiet coves, urban beaches overlooking the old town, each of Sitges beaches has its own special personality and atmosphere. In particular, Aiguadolç is a beautiful beach of 200 meters located in front of the marina of this town not far from Sitges, which in some places reaches a width of 22 meters. Sant Sebastià, located in the heart of an ancient fishing district of Sitges, is a family-friendly beach popular among local residents. It extends over 190 metres and is also suitable for people with reduced mobility. Ribera, thanks to its central location and a length of 260 meters, is one of the most famous and popular beaches in the area.

Also in the Garraf region is the beautiful town of Vilanova I la Geltrú, south of Sitges. Ideal place to enjoy a variety of water activities. One of the main attractions are its six kilometers of beautiful beaches: Ribes Roges, Sant Cristòfol Lighthouse and Adarró. All charming, quiet and spacious, ideal for those who love to relax in the sun. In addition to the beaches, the town of Vilanova I la Geltrú has a rich maritime history on display in the Marine Curiosities Museum in its historic fishing district, Llotja.

Perfectly nestled between the delta of the Llobregat River and the limestone plateaus of the Garraf Park, the city of Castelldefels, 18 kilometres south of Barcelona, is an ideal holiday destination for sports enthusiasts and families. The list of sports activities available is endless: sailing, rowing, kite surfing, mountain biking, skating and beach volleyball, are just some of the activities that you can do. The area also has a beautiful marina that includes the Blue Route, home of the Olympic Channel, built for the 1992 games. Here visitors can enjoy canoeing, windsurfing courses or visit the yacht club “Marítim Castelldefels”. Castelldefels Beach has been awarded four quality certificates for its five-kilometre-long stretch of fine golden sand. The Blue Flag beach area is fully equipped, making it ideal for families as well.

Located north of Barcelona, in the Maresme region, lies the city of Mataró. With a rich cultural heritage, the city has a privileged geographical position, with the sea on one side and the mountains on the other. Its seafront boasts 2.2 kilometres of pristine beaches, frequented by couples and families. The city has four main beaches, including the largest and most popular: Varador. It is ideal for sports enthusiasts and families thanks to its proximity to the city centre. The large sandy beaches of Ponent, Callao and Sant Simó, all with spectacular promenades, are also worth a visit. After a day on the beach, the city also offers tourists a number of attractions to visit such as the old town of Mataró and Passeig Marítim with its bars, terraces, restaurants, numerous traditional markets and the marina on the promenade.

In the Maresme region, north of Mataró, lies the beautiful city of Calella. Easily accessible by train, the city has been awarded the FTD (Family Tourism Destination) and many of its beaches have the Blue Flag. With three kilometres of golden beaches, countless restaurants and a vibrant nightlife, the area offers activities to suit all tastes. In particular, the beach of Garbí is surrounded by a beautiful promenade and has the Blue Flag since 1994, along with other certificates of national excellence. Gran, considered one of the best beaches in the region, has a very beautiful promenade where visitors can enjoy a wide range of entertainment activities, from concerts, to children’s entertainers, to the traditional dancers of Sardana, typical dance of Catalan culture. Les Roques, at the foot of Montenegro National Park, is a beach surrounded by pine trees and cliffs. The area also includes Roca Grossa, a small bay of nudists and the bay of La Vinyeta.
