“International Hannibal Classic” for vintage sails, registrations now open

Officially open the registrations for the second edition of the International Hannibal Classic – Memorial Sergio Sorrentino, the great regatta for classic sails scheduled in the upper Adriatic from 8 to 9 September 2018. The event, sponsored by Marina Hannibal and the Italian brand of eyewear W-EYE, will represent the third leg of the AIVE Cup (Associazione Italiana Vele d’Epoca) of the Adriatic. The fleet will sail between Monfalcone and Portorose, in Slovenia, in memory of the great sailor Sergio Sorrentino, the founder of Marina Hannibal who died in 2017.

On 8 and 9 September 2018 there will be the second edition of the International Hannibal Classic – Sergio Sorrentino Memorial (www.yachtclubhannibal.it), regatta for vintage and classic yachts starting from Marina Hannibal in Monfalcone (GO), arrival in Portorož in Slovenia after about 18 miles of sea through the Gulf of Trieste, night stop on Saturday evening at the Slovenian city and return to Monfalcone the next day. “I’m happy that this year the Hannibal Classic regatta is dedicated to Sergio Sorrentino, whom I could define as a family man”. This is how Mauro Pelaschier, the famous sailor who honours the memory of another great champion of the sport, recently declared. “Sergio Sorrentino”, continues Pelaschier, “has always used a Pelaschier or at least a relative of mine to compose the crews of the boats with which he has won important titles, including a World Dragon class”. The event is organized by the Yacht Club Hannibal under the sporting direction of Loris Plet, under the patronage of the Municipality of Monfalcone and the sponsorship of W-EYE, a prestigious Italian eyewear brand.

AIVE, the Italian Association of Vintage Sails, will take care of the tonnage of boats and classifications. Wooden or metal yachts built before 1950 (Yachts d’Epoca) and 1976 (Yachts Classici), as well as their replicas can be identified according to the “Rules for the tonnage and regattas of the Yachts d’Epoca and Classici – C.I.M. 2018-2021”. Separate classifications are foreseen for the boats designed by Carlo Sciarrelli, for the traditional “Passere” type boats and for the “Spirit of Tradition” boats. The admission of other types of boats will be evaluated at the sole discretion of the organizing committee. The public can visit the hulls at the berth both in Monfalcone and Portorož.
