The southern Maremma and excellence

A small pearl set on the Costa d’Argento, between Capalbio and the sea, the winery is immersed in the green of the lower Tuscany, in a territory rich in history and art.

Cities of art and ancient villages, enchanting views and breathtaking nature embellish this land – Tuscany – one of the most popular tourist destinations. Delicious gastronomy and excellent wines also contribute to this success. So for those who extend their journey to the extreme edge of the lower Maremma – almost on the border with Lazio – it would be a shame not to include in the notebook some food and wine excursus. Right here, in what is known to most as the Silver Coast, gently lying between Capalbio and the sea, stands the Monteverro estate: 50 hectares of sea view, a superlative barrique cellar and 6 labels – two white and 4 red – that conquer.

All fueled by a great passion for wine and the land of the two owners, Julia and George Weber, Germans from Munich, who landed at this end of the Maremma in 2003. This year the estate celebrates 10 years of the first harvest: in just 15 years since its foundation – when the first vines were planted on a specially shaped soil, red clay and eroded pebbles of limestone origin – Monteverro has become a wine producing reality of excellence on the international scene, recognized in Gotha of the largest wine producers.

In 2011 the first 4 wines of the estate made their debut: Monteverro, from Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot grapes, Terra di Monteverro, the same grape blend but of greater immediacy; Tinata, produced with Syrah and Grenache, and Chardonnay. In 2015, the offer was enriched with two new products: Verruzzo, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot with a small percentage of Sangiovese, and Vermentino di Monteverro. Six labels, four red and two white, produced following organic methods with a philosophy that aims at the absolute quality of the final product free from trends and fashions and that last year began the path to certification that will end in 2019.
